U.S. Embassy, Islamabad, Pakistan
In 2016, three paintings by Alan Sonneman were permanently installed in the lobby of the US Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, as part of the Art in Embassies program of the U..S. Department of State. The purchase was consisted of two existing paintings of California's Sierra Nevada and the commission of an image from the Karakoram range in Northern Pakistan. Initially the Department of State discussed sponsoring a trip to the Baltoro Glacier, which runs through the Karakoram range, but it was ruled out because of security concerns. It is known for its near vertical face, extending the entire height of the mountain.
